Antique Dresden Quatrefoil Cup & Saucer Turquoise Courting Couple Gilt c1900

Antique Dresden Quatrefoil Porcelain Cup & Saucer A really beautiful and unusual antique Dresden-style porcelain cup and saucer, with an elegant quatrefoil shape, turquoise ground, richly gilded decoration and wonderfully detailed courting couple scenes. The cup and saucer are both divided into decorative panels featuring romantic figures in period dress alongside hand-finished floral sprays, all framed with intricate gilt scrollwork. The shape is particularly lovely. Both the cup and saucer have the distinctive four-lobed quatrefoil form, while the cup has an elegant split scroll handle.

Both pieces carry a blue AR-style mark to the base. We believe this to be a late 19th / early 20th century Dresden porcelain piece, but have deliberately not attributed it to a specific Dresden decorating studio as we have been unable to confirm the maker conclusively. CONDITION Excellent antique condition for its age. The porcelain presents beautifully, with strong colours and wonderfully bright gilding. No obvious chips, cracks or repairs noted during our inspection.

There may be very minor age-related wear consistent with an antique porcelain piece. Please study all photographs carefully as they form an important part of the description and condition report. Antique porcelain cup and saucer. Late 19th to early 20th century.

Distinctive quatrefoil / four-lobed form. Courting couple / Watteau-style figural scenes. Extensive gilt scrollwork and gilded rims. Blue AR-style mark to bases. Cup and matching saucer included WHY WE LOVE IT This is one of those pieces that becomes more interesting the longer you look at it. The shape alone is fabulous, but then you have the turquoise panels, tiny painted figures, flowers and all that beautiful gold detailing. It is incredibly decorative and would look wonderful displayed in a cabinet, on a dresser or simply mixed amongst a collection of mismatched antique china. This piece will be carefully and securely packaged for its journey. The condition of the item and our packing process will be photographed and/or filmed before dispatch. PLEASE NOTE This is a genuine pre-loved antique item and signs of age should be expected. We research every piece in good faith and never knowingly overstate an attribution. The blue AR-style mark is clearly photographed for collectors to assess for themselves. Photographs form part of the description, so please view them carefully before purchasing.
