Pair Antique Ridgway 2/1221 Teacups and Saucers and Matching Plate Circa 1830

  

This is a gorgeous pair of gilded cups and saucers and matching plate by Ridgway, circa 1830. The design consists of an intricate pattern of flowers and leaves in gold, white and cobalt blue against an apricot ground. The exterior of the cups is graced by a rich gold floral and leaf pattern on white. The cup features a rosette at the upper junction of an Old English handle with a flat top.

The cup shape is pictured in'A Compendium of British Cups' by Michael Berthoud on page 128. The plate features the same pattern as the cups. This set is truly beautiful and would certainly grace an afternoon tea with the plate layered with goodies.

Overall, the set is in very good condition for its age with the plate and saucers showing gold loss on the interior circles. There are minor tiny bits of gold and color loss across the cups as well but not very noticeable. There are no chips or cracks and each piece rings like a bell when tapped. Overall each cup and saucer measure 5 5/8" across and 2 1/4" high and the plate measures 9 in diameter.
