Very RARE Aynsley signed BAILEY All Gold ROSE & POPPY CUP & SAUCER Athens Shape
This is the highly collectible ROSE AND POPPY lush floral pattern. Complete with artist facsimile signature J. Bailey on both inner cup and saucer.
It is the ATHENS shape with a very large open bowl cup shape and extended handle. Even more desirable is that the cup exterior and cup handle are completely gilded in burnished gold and the pattern completely covers the saucer and the cup interior. Both cup and saucer are in excellent vintage condition with no chips, cracks, hairlines, staining, other damage or restoration. There is one underglaze pinhead black spot on the saucer above the signature, and two other pin prick sized black specks on outer saucer edge. Both pieces do "ping" although the cup is not quite as clear as the saucer. No chips, cracks, hairlines or other damage or restoration. A few minor scratches to the surface visible under very strong light common with gilded pieces but the burnished gold is also generally intact and has a wonderful patina. Cup is 2 1/4" tall at sides and 2 3/4" tall top top of handle and 5" across including handle; saucer is 5 1/2" across. Marked with older Aynsley crown mark in dark green and pattern C 804 handpainted in black as shown in photo. Please ignore all white spots on all photos caused by camera flash.This lovely set would make a great addition to your collection. Please examine all the photos carefully as they are part of this description. I do try and describe my items accurately.
