Meissen HP Cattle Herding Scene Floral Blue & Gold Tea Cup & Saucer C. The cup is decorated with a hand painted scene depicting two men herding cattle, a woman on a horse, and a goat with a castle on a mountain or cliff in the background framed in old gilt scrollwork. The saucer has a gold gilt floral medallion in the center and three white sections framed in gold gilt scrollwork and with pink, purple, orange, blue, and yellow flowers inside. With an overall peacock blue background with gold gilt scrollwork designs to the inner rim of the cup and edge of the saucer. Has gold gilt highlights to the entwined handle of the cup and a gold gilt medallion in the center of the cup.
Marked on the bottom with underglaze blue crossed swords mark used by the imperial Meissen factory between 1860 and 1924. Has some minor wear to the gilding, and there is a small gilded over chip to the foot rim of the cup below the scene. No additional chips or cracks. The cup measures approximately 3 7/8 inches wide including the handle x 2 1/2 inches tall.
The saucer measures approximately 5 1/2 inches wide. This is an antique and may have small in manufacture defects that do not effect the display of the piece.
