Antique Royal Vienna Cobalt Cup & Saucer, Signed. Up for sale is the Royal Vienna cobalt blue cup and saucer with heavy gold gilt decorations and hand painting, dated likely late 19. The cup delicately depicts the scenes of a lady sitting on a rock and making a flower garland while shepherding sheep in a field with grass, trees and remote mountains. Signed lower right by the artist K.
Weh, the scenes are encircled by raised gilt designs. Next to the painting is the gold gilt floral motifs surrounding the cup. The handle, interior, upper and lower rims are all in gold gilt decorations. There is another mark found under the painting as Hictin?
But hard to make sure. The saucer is with gold gilt decorations in floral motifs in the center and the neighboring areas.
The raised gilt designs are also observed next to the edges. Both the cup and saucer have the unsymmetrical shield, or beehive, hallmark in blue color under the glaze. And both have the written number 98, representing possibly as the year number. Measures: Cup, 3 (upper rim diameter) x 4 high (with the handle) x 2 1/8 (base diameter); Saucer, 5 (upper rim diameter) x ¾. Condition: excellent with no chips, cracks or repairs.
There is gold gilt loss to the inner edges and the bottom of the cup, consistent with age and use. We try our best to describe the posted items precisely and accurately, pointing out any imperfections. We are happy to answer any questions.
