Antique Nippon Chocolate Cup & Saucer, Jeweled
This porcelain chocolate cup and saucer was produced in Japan by Morimura Nippon in the 1890s. It has the green maple leaf marking over the glaze. The diameter of the saucer is 5 inches. The cup is 3 1/4 inches tall with a diameter of 2 1/2 inches. The cup has a lobed shape, art nouveau handle and 4 little feet.
The front of the cup has a hand painted landscape and lake scene, framed in a beaded gold cartouche. Other areas of the cup and the whole surface of the saucer is elaborately hand gilded with raised gold, accented with turquoise and pink jewels. This cup and saucer was inspired by work done by Coalport.
