Antique Noritake Nippon Coffee Cup & Saucer, Roses & Opulent Gold

  

This cup and saucer was produced in Japan by the Mari Mura Brothers between 1891 and 1911. It has the blue maple leaf and word Nippon. The saucer has a diameter of 5 7/8 inches, the cup is 2 inches high and 4 1/8 inches in diameter.

It is large and was probably used for breakfast coffee. The cup is molded with a blown-out shape. The elaborate gilding on both pieces is completely hand painted and all raised. Inside the cup, at the bottom, is a reserve of colorful roses framed with beading and gilding.
