A VERY, VERY RARE, AUTHENTIC, STUNNING, MAGNIFICENT AND ULTRA COLLECTABLE HAND PAINTED GILDED TEA CUP & SAUCER MATCHING SET IN THE CHELSEA BIRD PATTERN. Produced at the Chelsea Porcelain Works, Derby, Derbyshire, England between 1756 & 1769 and pre-dates Chelsea-Derby then Derby, Bloor Derby, Crown Derby and in 1980 Royal Crown Derby. This dating of item is authenticated by the matching gold anchors on the bases of both cup and saucer that are exactly one quarter of an inch in height. NB:- any higher in height than this on any'Chelsea Porcelain Works' item should be considered as a possible reproduction. Please view all the photographs that show the hand applied gilded rims and gilded fretted patterning over the surfaces. The underglaze blue with scaling effect is beautifully complimented by the various, very artistic hand painted overglaze birds of paradise and green foliage with other windows depicting various bugs / insects. The cup & saucer set are in the same identical excellent condition with no wear, chips, cracks, scratches, crazing, usage marks, restoration or pattern loss with only the minimal age related interference to the gilding that certainly does not detract or devalue this probably impossible to find item. The photographs are the condition description so please view them carefully. In my very honest opinion a 260 year old item in a most pristine condition for its age. I doubt very much it would be possible to find a better example apart from possibly the one that is in the'Victoria and Albert Museum' in London, England and that is if one ever comes up for sale. Saucer diameter is approximately 13.5cm / 5.3 inches. Cup bowl diameter 8.5cm / 3.3inches with a height of 5cm / 2 inches.
