The background color behind the garland is is a very light cream whereas the center of the saucers, the bottom part of the cup and the interior of the cup is the high white of the porcelain. The differences between these two colors is subtle and very hard to tell any difference between them. The smooth rims are trimmed in gold as also are the feet and handles of the cups. This pattern is identified as Clinton.
CONDITION: While this set of 6 cups and saucers is classified as used, the condition is superb. We find no nicks, chips, scratches, cracks, hairlines, or repairs. There appears to be absolutely no wear to the colors and no crazing. The gold shows no wear.
DIMENSIONS: The cups have a height of 2 3/16" with a diameter of 4". The capacity of the cups is 6 ounces.
The saucers have a diameter of 5 3/4" and a height of 5/8". HISTORY/MARKS: The American-born David Haviland settled in Limoges, France in 1842 operating a porcelain exporting business to the USA. In 1847, he established a decorating studio in Limoges. He started producing porcelain in Limoges in 1865 and decorating it on site. His sons, Charles Edward and Theodore, continued the prosperous business after David's death in 1879. Theodore left to establish his own firm in 1892 and was joined by his son, William, in 1903. In 1919, Theodore died and his firm passed on to his son. It remained in the Haviland family until 1972.
