Rare Antique Meissen Scenic Coffee Cup & Saucer, Watteau Scenes, 18th C (B)
This porcelain coffee cup and saucer was produced in Germany by Meissen in the late 1700s. The saucer has a diameter of 5 3/8 inches and is 1 1/8 inches deep. The cup is 2 3/4 inches high. The porcelain has basket weave molding on the edges. The cup has an ornately scrolled handle. The set is hand painted with Watteau scenes in vibrant colors. Fine ladies and gentlemen of the 18th century are strolling the garden or engaging in conversation. The detailed painting of the lovers is exquisite. The basket weave design on the edges is accented with gold as are the rims and handle of the cup.
