DESCRIPTION: This superb quality china has color that is bright and vivid. This is a sweeping Mid-Century Modern pattern with the use of a pink, magenta, yellow and brown color palette on the fine ivory porcelain with gold trim. The pattern uses flowers, bubbles, feathers and leaves in an interesting composition typical of the MCM period. Looking closely, you can see the brush strokes of the mixation method of hand painting over a decal. Please note that 5 cups and saucers are in the photo, but this listing is for only 4 sets of cups & saucers with the creamer and sugar.

We split one set of a cup and saucer at a customer's request. CONDITION: While this set is classified as used, it is in superb condition. We can find no utensil wear or rubbing. There are no chips, nicks, cracks, hairlines or repairs to any of the pieces. There is no wear to the gold.

DIMENSIONS: The cups have a diameter of 3 1/4" and a height of 2 15/16" to the top of the handle. The saucers have a diameter of 5 11/16" with a height of 3/4".

The creamer handle to spout is 4 3/4" with a maximum diameter of 3 3/8" and a height of 3 5/8. The open sugar has a diameter of 4 5/8" and a height of 2 1/2". HISTORY/MARKS: The lengthy history of Ridgway Potteries dates all the way back to 1873 and includes many name and owner changes. In 1953, the Lawley Group acquired managerial control of Booths and Colcloughs Ltd.

Both groups were already owned by S. Which was the operating company of Lord Cowdray's industrial empire. The simpler name, Ridgway Potteries, Ltd. The mark is identified as mark #3288 by Geoffrey A. Godden's Encyclopaedia of British and Porcelain Marks.

This branch of the pottery operated at Bedford Works in Shelton, Staffordshire, England. As collectors ourselves, we tend to be very picky and find it necessary to point out anything we see.
